Tim Dowd- The Language of Colour
TIM DOWD
The Language of Colour:Research
The Language of colour
by Tim Dowd
ìColor motivates, excites, draws attention and provides emphasis. It is one part of the coordinated effort to effectively communicate in information design. Color has long been thought to be only for embellishment or decoration. But if used intelligently, color can help give visual order to complex information. It can attract, enlighten and engage, and thus, add value.î
This is an explination of visual Language and how colour can be used
to give information by
Tim Dowd, this explination really hits the nail on the head.
This explination of language is what I hope to make more clear
in my essay!
He also explains on the website how we use interface design and colour and sometimes missuse colour for it’s true purpose.
( To convey Information)
ìAs human beings, Tim Dowd explains, we try to attatch meaning to what we see and percieveî
( To convey Information)
His explanations and notions are very interesting to me and has inspired me to start my abstract about how we visually perceive colour as one universal visual language.
Research Plan
Visual Narrative/Language thinking - Research
Notes
APPLYING MY RESEARCH TO MY ABSTRACT:Research Plan
Visual Language and how I can apply it in my abstract
- I am interested in colour and how different emotive messages can be conveyed by simply using colour.
- City in flux- Road signs, “A universal understanding of colour and meaning behind road signs” (Possible Title of essay)
- Research how universally we all understand colour in a visual language and can identify emotions and meanings that lie within colour.
- Examples of colour used in Phrases? E.g. (I’m feeling blue), (He was Green with envy) I could use these in my opening abstract to let people identify what it is exactly what I intend to research and write about in this particular essay.
What else could I research?
- Research different journals and how other people look into how colour is perceived as a universal visual language.
- Look at other blogs and how they feel on this issue on visual language within the city.
- Find examples of colour used for visual effect in order for us to understand our Primary feelings at what we are looking at.
This is a plan of my research and how I am going to apply it into my 500 word Abstract that is due in on the 14th November!
