TYPE TRANSCRIPT (Testing the typeface)

I have tried to use my alphabet in other words to see if the alphabet is legible and easy enough to read, I am happy to say that I feel the typography piece has worked well! I asked numerous people and all were able to read the words that were on the screen. "The quick fox", "Bad comb" and "Snake cider" Therefore I feel that the alphabet as a whole has been a success because of how people can read the words in my own font.

Here I have tried the words in a colour, however after trying this in colour I feel that it takes away from the type more than it provides the appearance now looks childish and since my font is not aimed at a particular child like audience I won't be using any colour on my type.

TYPE TRANSCRIPT (Vectorised alphabet)

This is my completed Alphabet I have vectorised on Adobe Illustrator. After creating my final alphabet by hand I decided that I should try and vectorise my alphabet on Illustrator to make it look more professional. I decided to use a block as a feature which appears in every letter, I like this because I feel like it cements the alphabet together and the familiarisation of the block I have made makes each letter appear similar.

I used the pen tool and guides to create my letters, the guides helped me adjust lines on the each letter so the style was the same throughout each letter. The alphabet's italic style is very powerful I will try the alphabet out using a sentence to prove that the alphabet works well as a whole.

TYPEFACE TRANSCRIPTION: (3 ALPHABETS)

I also like this alphabet, because of its simplistic aesthetic, I used 2 diagonal lines to create a basis for my designs the consistency is strong and looks successful as a complete alphabet. I have the idea of combining the second alphabet with this one by maybe using the black rectangle in the place of the two diagonal lines because I like how the block creates a strength to the different letters.

I really like this Alphabet I have used the black rectangle as a feature in each letter of my alphabet in different ways this creates more of a consistency throughout my Alphabet which I like, the letters are easy to distinguish from one another and offer a wider scope of development that the other
alphabets do.

This is my least favourite alphabet because of it's lack of consistency, I can see how I have developed the alphabet using lowercase letters with straight lines and curves but I don't think that this alphabet works as well as the other two which are a lot more consistence and look much more like an alphabet that this one does.

This is my experimental page of my different typographic alphabets I looked at
various different artists and created sketches of shapes that could be evolved
into alphabets by using different features from the art pieces.

Artist inspiration for type (El Lissitzky)

El lissitzky- An artist I have found inspirational when I was developing my typefaces. His use of geometric shapes and lines in a composition or design work well and create certain feelings about that are suggested in some of his work. I like the way diagonal lines are used in lots of his work and thin lines are used against bold geometric shapes to add depth and contrast in his work which I find appealing.

Works Like these have inspired me because of there use of diagonal lines, there are plenty of shapes to be found in artworks like these and I will use this to my advantage when experimenting with my typefaces.

THUMBNAIL VISUALS/ GRID LAYOUTS

Here are the thumbnail sketches/grid layouts I have created so far for my short story/article, I have used small drawings and different layout of text to create these visuals all in one. I found this to be a better method because it meant that I could see first hand what my news paper article would actually look like.
I made 6 Thumbnail/Grid layouts in total because I felt that this gave me plenty of layout options and thumbnail sketches in general to push forward I am happy with the quality and the army of different visual layout I feel that I have plenty of different options to go with.

SHORT STORY: (character profiles)

This is the character profile of Susan the weirdest character in my story, we never really see her in the story or speak to her. All we know is she is a detective who lives in London. She is the sister of John who always has had praise from their Parents, this feeling of not knowing makes her a very mysterious character. She isn't mentioned much apart from in the beginning where she is described as being "Obsessive" by John.
John is none the wiser of her suspicious actions, however I know that she is not to be taken lightly and there is much more to her than John and other people think.

SHORT STORY: (character profiles)

This is the Character Profile of Zulu the ginger tabby cat that John has to look after while Susan is "away" I have added basic information about Zulu like her age and gender.
Zulu is one of the most important characters from the very start and the story seems to revolve around her, she is always involved in some way to whatever is going on in the story.
I have used images that I found best described her, the dark picture of the ginger tabby on the right is how I would picture her looking, the dark part of the face makes her look dark and mysterious which relates to the story as a whole.
I have also added the Eyenimal and the collar which are two main features that are attached to Zulu.

SHORT STORY: (character profile)

This is a basic character profile I have created for the main Character in my Short story, John.
I have included where he is from how old he is and his work information, I have also added a picture of what I would expect him to look like.
I pictures John as a young Nerdy 24 year old with curly hair who looks quite shy because of his unsocial lifestyle.

SHORT STORY: STORYBOARDING

I have made another moodboard for my short story because I wasn't happy with the one I created on paper. Plus in this one I have created more of a link between the images and the actual story itself. In this mood board we can see that I have used important features from the story and gave clues to what the story is about. I have set the images out in such a way to tell different sections of the story. and the different squares of images hold other images which link with the image behind. This has made the mood-board more relevant to what I am trying to say and gives a better understanding of my story as a whole.

I have used things like the setting, plot and storyline all in one moodpboard and I believe it has made my story easier to understand.

SHORT STORY (MOODBOARD)

Here is a moodpboard of images which relate to my short story. If these pictures are pieced together in the right order a storyboard could be created which is what I am going to try next in Photoshop arranging images to replicate the story and how it unfolds.
