Church Group building
This is the church group building illustration I created from a reference image I took while in Perth, I used the Pen tool to create the outline on Illustrator by using the reference image as a guidance I could trace the building and follow some lines using the pen tool which helped me a lot in
this process.
I then rendered my finished outline once I was happy and added some other distinct features which were on the building like windows and brickwork, I decided to add these after the render because It was easier to add features on top of the colour instead of having to work around individual colour.
Overall I am happy with this illustration and will add it to the bigger layout I have on InDesign to start working without layout and facts.

Foldouts- Research into a new idea!
I have found some fold out booklets and design which I have researched on various different pages, I have also analysed what types of design would benefit my project and the direction in which I want to take it.
I am happy with what I have found I believe it can really benefit me and help me move on with my project looking at layouts and how they are put together will also help me in future developments.
"Chosen Concept"
This is my chosen Concept page, I chose to create a fold out book which will inform tourists of different information about the architecture and the things they will find in Perth.
I will use the reference photographs I have already gathered in my primary research to illustrate from, I will add text and information about chosen illustrations which will inform and
entertain my audience.
"Who's my Audience"
This is a page from my InDesign document when I decided who my audience was, I decided that my aimed audience would be Tourists 16 years and over.

Artist Research- Behance
This is "Behance", I found a lot of Illustration that is influenced by the city on this page which is why I used it as inspiration on my project. The work I have focused on is road maps and how they are mapped out by in illustration purposes.
This landmarking of historical sites and places of interest is a very good Idea I love the way they have presented the work in an actual road map which is in the city as shown in the
bottom right hand picture.
They are influenced by the city because of how they know what city they are trying to design for and researching into what the historical background is of whatever it is they are designing for, for instance in the "Robot" design they have used actual robots they have illustrated to make the
buildings, vehicles ect.. It is easy to tell that they have really done there research with there piece of work because of the detailed reflection of what they city is all about in there designs.
We can see this in designs like "BeRLin" and the personalised LouLou and Tummie design they have created on my artist research page.
New Idea - Fold out Illustration

This is one of my concepts, I had the idea of creating a fold out book to present my illustration on instead of just having the illustration on a flat piece of A3 paper.
The fold out book offers another dimension to my illustration which I find interesting, I also think that this would allow my designs to flow better throughout the fold out book when you unfold the book you will see the entire illustration spread across a foldout which demonstrates the vastness of the city and how I show that in my illustrations.

Perth Theatre
This is my next illustration, the Perth Theatre is a very small and quirky part of Perth which has a lot of character and influence on the city. The theatre has recently been renovated and upgraded but still has it's original style which I find very interesting and smart.
This in itself shows a city In flux and is perfect to go onto my big illustration.

Perth Cathedral- Development
Here is the development I went through to create the Perth Cathedral which is a very popular historic building in Perth, I used 7 colours which sounds like a lot but I had to use this many to ensure I had the correct amount of shading and colour differences between different parts of the building.
Overall I am very happy with this design, the illustration as a whole is at a good standard and I feel I can add this piece to my Big illustration and focus on layout.

The Big Illustration- Fourth Bridge
This is my next development of my illustrations, I have created a replica illustration of Fourth Bridge using a reference image of a photograph I took of the bridge while driving past on the way to Perth.
I created the bridge using the Pen tool and used rectangles for the bridge separators, I also used various different Stroke strengths to create the wiring of the Bridge and the steel structure, I used a higher strength for the Steel to make it clear which part of the bridge appears the heaviest.
I also looked at the history of the bridge to get a better idea of what the bridges texture and environment should be, I discovered that the Bridge was built in the 1890's and since then there has been a never ending job of painting the bridge over and over again, this is why I have added the small ladders on top of the flats to demonstrate the job that has been going on for so many years.
I have used lots of small circles on the steel structure of the bridge to give it a different texture to the rest of the bridge, this makes it more identifiable as a metal and seems to give it a heavier appearance which I like.
I created the wires using a clean stroke without any fill to make the wires look thin but still structurally integral.
"The Big Illustration" Development
This is the first developments of my "Big Illustration" which will make up all my individual illustrations in order to create one visual piece of design, So far I have illustrated the Flats and the Clock building which I have also rendered using Illustrator.
Overall I am happy with the flats appearance, the colours seem to represent the Character and the style of the flats which is what I wanted to achieve when I was rendering, they also sit well next to the Clock building and is an accurate representation of Perth since they are on the same street.
This complete change in style of architecture that appear on the same street show how Perth is changing, I love the clash between the old and new buildings and styles and it is something I hope to replicate in my illustrations.
The Clock building is very different from the flats which is why I decided to put them together, the Clock building offers an older historic appearance which seems to conquer over the Modernistic flats, The cracks and colour deterioration show how the building has aged and corroded in the years from heavy rain, this is something I need to work on in my illustration. Showing ageing through my illustrations is very important to justify which building are older that the others.
Next I am going to Create the "Fourth Bridge" a historic bridge that was build in March 1890, although it isn't in Perth it is very close to it and offers a foreshadowing representation of what you can expect to find in Perth ad the surrounding areas.

Flats Render Development
This is the Development and render of the Flats, There were three steps.
To start off with I created a simple Pen tool outline using the reference image as a guide to how I should present each feature.
After I had created this part of the Illustration I added some colour, I used the eyedropper tool to extract the colour I needed from the various parts of the reference image at this point it wasn't about creating anything spectacular of colourful it was about getting colour onto the flats to see how I could improve on the colours and make the flats pop on the illustration.
Finally, I decided that the colour from the colour pickers were very boring and didn't reflect the true personality of the flats that I saw in person, I decided to play around with colour making the contrast higher and the colours bolder. This seemed to make the flats pop out and really show the character which I was wanting to show of the flats in the first instance.
I also made the Stroke higher to try and make the flats pop a lot more on the page, this has been a very successful first illustration!

Inspired Title Test!
"Illustration Inspiration"
A moodboard I created focusing on how Illustrators such as Janine Rewell
and LouLou and Tummie use the City as inspiration in there designs.
