"I am the design":Manifesto

"I am the design" Manifesto.

I am the design that would change your life,
I am the design that people wish they created,
I am the design that never breaks,
I am the design that never runs out of batteries,
I am the design that people wait for all day,
I am the design that saves and creates life,
I am the design that is only getting bigger,
I am the design that other designs want to be,
I am the design that you can touch,
I am the design that works anywhere,
I am the design that saves us from other designs,
I am the design that is old and new all at the same time,
I am the design that creates design,
I am the design that makes you wonder,
I am the design you want for Christmas,
I am the worlds best design,
I am the design that shapes the world,
I am the design that is underrated,
I am the most important design there has ever been,
I am the design that make life easier...
I am the design that makes life...
I am the design that makes...
I am the design...

The idea of this exercise was to think more deeply about how we relate to design. We think how we can be likened to a design and how we ourselves are the design. This is a list of scenarios of how we are the designs of our generation. The main point of this exercise was to think how we are designs and how we could fit in to the ever changing world; the scenarios I created, focus on how we as designs could be implicated and changed.

"Jukebox" a design created by me.

This is a design I created using illustrator, inspired by swerve and his illustrations and how he uses backgrounds which inform about the foreground and the actual illustration. I was inspired by Swerve and some of the people I looked at for inspiration to create this design using the word JUKEBOX I used an exercise I found where I asked people to say the first thing that came into their head In this case I asked my dad to say the first word that came into his head which was jukebox. I created the different elements of my design using the pen tool on illustrator and made the box lettering using squares to make the text relevant to the actual design. I am most happy with the headphones because I feel that I have used the pen tool well to create the different dimensions and the shape of
the headphones.
I am really happy with this test, I used the Pen tool to create the design making highlights and the earphones also using the pen tool, I used a reference image of earphones I found on google and created them around the BOX feature which I thin has added a new interest point and helps the design as a whole pop.

ROTATION

This is a design I create in my spare time, it was my first time using the rotation tool on illustrator after finding a tutorial on youtube. I created anchor points in the middle of shapes and used geometric shapes with different set angles to create a measured rotation of shapes around my base shape which was a circle. I am very happy with how this has turned out, the design isn't completely finished but I now feel that I have a better knowledge of how the rotation tool works on illustrator and i feel that I can now use it in the future in my new design that I create.

Thor - Speed Painting (#Photoshop Element) | CreativeStation

This is an Illustration by "Creative Station" I found via Youtube.
He creates an incredible illustration of THOR using only the Pain brush tool in a time-lapse styled video! It took him 10 hours to complete the overall design and it was worth it in the end. The production process looks laborious but has worked well and the atmosphere and depth that has been created has worked well. He uses different colour techniques and strategies to create this illustration and gets it exactly right. What an amazing Illustration!

SWERVE- "So Rich" Illustration and design process

"So rich" by SWERVE.
I love this style of work he is doing at the moment, turning sketches and ideas digital and developing them on Adobe Illustrator. He uses the Pen tool for the majority of this design very well, he obviously has a great understanding of how Illustrator works.
A lot of his work is based around creating Logo's and branding for clients, this is well demonstrated in this piece of work as we see him create a SPEEDART LOGO for "So rich".

He also creates shadows and highlights using the Pen tool to make this design come to life!

Tim Dowd- The Language of Colour

TIM DOWD
The Language of Colour:Research

The Language of colour
by Tim Dowd
ìColor motivates, excites, draws attention and provides emphasis.  It is one part of the coordinated effort to effectively communicate in information design. Color has long been thought to be only for embellishment or decoration. But if used intelligently, color can help give visual order to complex information. It can attract, enlighten and engage, and thus, add value.î

This is an explination of visual Language and how colour can be used
to give information by
Tim Dowd, this explination really hits the nail on the head.
This explination of language is what I hope to make more clear
in my essay!

ìAs human beings, Tim Dowd explains, we try to attatch meaning to what we see and percieveî

He also explains on the website how we use interface design and colour and sometimes missuse colour for it’s true purpose.
( To convey Information)
His explanations and notions are very interesting to me and has inspired me to start my abstract  about how we visually perceive colour as one universal visual language.

"ANGRY BEAR" Illustration!

Here is another Illustration by swerve, the overall design is very clean and professional and the use of colour with type has been very successfully managed and balanced. The gradient colour scheme works well through the illustration and type and overall makes the design look more interesting than a block colour would. The pen tool has been used successfully in this video of the production process, different pen styles have been used emphasise different textures of the bears face and make the bears expression angry to match the type. Overall I just feel that swerve is in his comfort zone here and uses the pen tool and type well together to create a great visual piece of work.

Research Plan

Visual Narrative/Language thinking - Research
Notes

APPLYING MY RESEARCH TO MY ABSTRACT:Research Plan

Visual Language and how I can apply it in my abstract

  • I am interested in colour and how different emotive messages can be conveyed by simply using colour.
  • City in flux- Road signs, “A universal understanding of colour and meaning behind road signs” (Possible Title of essay)
  • Research how universally we all understand colour in a visual language and can identify emotions and meanings that lie within colour.
  • Examples of colour used in Phrases? E.g. (I’m feeling blue), (He was Green with envy) I could use these in my opening abstract to let people identify what it is exactly what I intend to research and write about in this particular essay.

What else could I research?

  • Research different journals and how other people look into how colour is perceived as a universal visual language.
  • Look at other blogs and how they feel on this issue on visual language within the city.
  • Find examples of colour used for visual effect in order for us to understand our Primary feelings at what we are looking at.

This is a plan of my research and how I am going to apply it into my 500 word Abstract that is due in on the 14th November!

Spacecraft Illustration

This is a very realistic design which I have found. It was created on Photoshop and Illustrator together from an original sketch, they use different shades of white to create the main space ship and more colour on top to create more detail. i love how they create the shadows and the highlights on photoshop using the opacity tool and the brush tool together to give the design more depth. After they create the spaceship and they are happy with all the elements they move on to step 2 which is to create the background and the scene that the spaceship is going to be flying in. I feel that working in steps like this makes things less complicated and makes the creation of the whole design a lot easier than trying to create it all at once. The lighting and the effects work well together and offer a very nice artistic outcome. I really like watching the process the artists go through to create these big pieces of art.
